Cost of Living Data
The cost of living from 2000 to 2015 has increased 37.6%, however, private sector wages have barely budged in decades. Private sector taxpayers are dealing with stagnant [and even reduced] wages as the cost of living/inflation outpaces wage growth. Meanwhile, public servants are receiving wages in excess of the household income of their taxpayers.
Taxes are being levied at increasing rates to cover unconscionable, contractual Village and School salaries and benefits. Homes have lost value, wages have remained stagnant, and the economy is slow to recover, but the Village and School Districts have been doubling and tripling their salaries over the last 10-15 years. |

Housing Values Data
Over a 15 year time span, Chicago area home prices saw a NEGATIVE (-14.1) percentage change in home values.
Property taxes SHOULD be tied to property values, but as properties have lost value, tax rates have done nothing but steadily increase, as seen on the "property taxes" page of this site. Are property tax rates set based on property value or the annually increasing budgets, salaries and benefits of our local government and public servants? It appears to be the latter. |

Moraine Valley College Leadership Fail
Padding a salary before retirement seems to be a common occurrence in school districts and higher education - check out the outrageous salary increase of now retired Moraine Valley Community College President, Vernon Crawley, listed below. Salary padding and PENSION ABUSE must be addressed and stopped by school boards, even boards with current teachers and village employees on them (ahem, District 146... conflict of interest perhaps?).
